New Updates in Midjourney V6

April 16, 2024
The new release of version 6, a significant upgrade to the AI art-generating system developed by the Midjourney team, was just revealed. Significant advancements in prompt comprehension, image quality, and additional features are included in this version. We’ll go over some of the most significant enhancements and modifications included in v6 in this post.
Just type “–v 6” after any prompt to begin utilising Midjourney’s next-generation v6 features, or choose “V6” from the settings dropdown menu.
1. More Precise Prompt Following
The ability to follow prompts considerably more accurately is one of the largest changes in version 6. Instead of reading things more loosely, the AI will adhere more tightly to the details you supply. This makes it possible to guide the AI with greater control and consistent outcomes.
Regarding prompting, v6 additionally allows for lengthier, more thorough prompts. The maximum prompt length has been raised to 80 words from approximately 40 words in earlier iterations. This keeps the AI from being confused and enables considerably more context, depth, and specificity to be used as guidance.
However, the number of “permutations” that are feasible grows exponentially with prompt length. Hence, even if v6 can process 80 words, there are situations when it becomes confused or overloaded and produces an image that is not what you intended. With an intricate 80-word prompt, it can take several tries to get all the details across.
2. Enhanced Clarity of Images
Similar to most of the earlier versions of Midjourney, version 6 significantly improves the coherence, style accuracy, and fidelity of the created visuals. According to the Midjourney team, visual components should have a more cohesive look and “hang together” better. Additionally, improvements to the AI model result in more accurate rendering of details.
The Midjourney team notes that prompt style modifications were also necessary as a result of the significant AI improvement. More specific, comprehensive prompts are now required by V6, as opposed to vague “vibes.” Excluding information increases the likelihood of irrelevant parts being produced.
3. Better Remix Mode
The “remix mode” in Mid Journey, which lets you change an already-generated image while keeping important elements, is improved in version 6. Users now have more power thanks to the new remix functionality.
It is now possible to change certain aspects of a graphic design or content without affecting the image’s overall composition. You may change an image from a summer beach scene to a winter setting, or from a lifelike approach to a flat cartoon look.
While the AI maintains the main aesthetic, subject, positions, etc., you can modify the prompts here to change the style, lighting, content, and other features.
4. Better Upscalers
Improved upscaling is also included in the v6 release to increase image resolution. Both a new, powerful 4x upscaler and a 2x are now available. Upscaling is strategically boosting an existing generation’s degree of detail while maintaining the content as closely as possible.
Create a regular image using /imagine before attempting to access the upscalers. Next, pick the 2x or 4x upscale button by clicking the U buttons to isolate a specific generation. But bear in mind that the 4x version requires around three times as much GPU processing time.
During the alpha phase, Midjourney invites users to extensively test v6 and offer comments. It’s advisable to experiment with both new and old type prompts, as they have indicated that prompting skills may need to be recalibrated (as some old prompts may not operate as well as they did before).
Positive feedback has been received thus far on the v6 update, with the majority of users noting significant improvements. You may see several of the new v6 photos that have been uploaded to the Midjourney subreddit if you’d want a real-world peek.
